I’m healthy, why do I need funeral insurance?

Life is full of uncertainties, and we can’t predict the future. While there’s no point in dwelling on the worst, it’s good to be prepared.

Taking out funeral insurance is one way to be prepared for whatever life brings. It helps you protect your loved ones from high funeral costs, and other bills or expenses you may leave behind. Learn more about who should consider funeral insurance.

How much does it cost for funeral insurance?

The cost of funeral insurance will depend on your level of cover and other personal factors, so the only way to get an accurate indication is to request a quote from a trusted provider. For example, with NZ Seniors if you’re a male, non-smoker aged 60 and take out a policy with a $3,000 benefit, you’ll pay just $4.10 per week. Premiums can be paid fortnightly, monthly or annually.

Keep in mind there’s no refund of premiums after the cooling off period and the total amount of premiums payable over the life of the policy has the potential to exceed the cover amount.

How does funeral insurance work?

Funeral insurance works much the same way as other insurance policies – where you pay a fortnightly or monthly premium based factors such as on your age and the benefit amount you choose. When you pass away, your family will receive a lump sum benefit payout they can use to cover any immediate expenses, such as a funeral service and any outstanding bills.
